This programme provides the knowledge and skills to address diverse public health issues in low-, middle- and high-income countries through the promotion of health and prevention of diseases; the development and evaluation of care practices; and the investigation and control of environmental threats to health. You will be instructed in the development, use and critical evaluation of conceptual models, evidence, methods of analysis, and practical interventions.

The curriculum allows you to opt for a broad range of knowledge by taking the general pathway or specialise in one of three streams: Environment & Health, Health Promotion or Health Services Management. The programme draws on our long history of international work and expertise in a variety of disciplines fundamental in the field of public health.

Who is it for?
This self-study programme will benefit those who want a deeper understanding of public health issues and/or to boost their career development. Many students are health professionals in service or policy roles. Others work in development, community services, government, research or teaching.

Structure

  • PG Certificate: 6 modules (4 compulsory + 2 further core modules)
  • PG Diploma: 10 modules (4 compulsory + 2 further core + 4 elective modules)
  • MSc: 14 modules (4 compulsory + 2 further core + 8 elective modules) or 11 modules (4 compulsory + 2 further core + 5 elective modules) + a project report

  • Basic Statistics for Public Health & Policy
  • Introduction to Health Economics

Entry requirements
A first or second class honours degree or equivalent in health-related disciplines or another appropriate subject, from a university or other institution acceptable to the University of London, and a minimum of one year’s relevant work experience. Applicants who do not satisfy the above requirements may still be admitted at the discretion of the University of London on the basis of academic qualification, work experience and references.

English Language Requirements
As part of the application process, applicants are required to demonstrate how they meet LSHTM/University of London’s minimum English Language requirements.
